Curtain alterations that fit your space

Light creeping in at the top? Fabric bunching at the bottom? When your curtains don’t fit, they don’t work. We tailor them to suit your windows properly, so your space feels warmer, quieter, and more comfortable.

Visit your nearest Alter It store to have your curtains tailored to fit your space.

Built to last: what we can do for your curtains

Curtains are high-use items. They get pulled open, pushed shut, washed, rehung, and sun-bleached. We make sure they can handle it.

  • Curtain resizing: We shorten or narrow curtains, including pencil pleats, pinch pleats, and tab tops, so they sit where they’re meant to, not halfway down the wall or dragging on the floor.
  • Curtain creation: Have a specific idea for your curtains you want to bring to life? Bring in your own fabric and we can make simple curtains from scratch. Just check with your local store to see if they offer this service.
  • Repairing rips or wear: Don’t replace your whole curtains if they have a rip. Bring them in for our team to fix.
  • Fixing linings: We repair or replace worn linings to help insulate your room and block out light. If you're a shift worker, turning your curtains into blackout ones can be life-changing.
  • Hems and headers: We can tidy up frayed hems or alter header tape to suit your curtain rod or track.
  • Tabs and eyelets: Adjust how your curtain hangs by fixing or replacing tabs, loops, or eyelets.
  • Re-hemming: If the hem has come undone or isn’t sitting straight anymore, we’ll make it look brand new again.

Big or small, we’ll get the job done properly. That way, your curtains can sit right and will hold up over time.

FAQs

Can you shorten curtains with linings?

Yes! We shorten both lined and unlined curtains without changing their structure.

Do I need to wash my curtains before bringing them in?

If they’re dusty or have been in storage, yes, it’s always easier to work with clean fabric. Laundromats often have large washing machines that are great for curtains if they don’t fit in your home washing machine.

Can you repair torn curtains?

Absolutely. We often repair rips, frayed edges, and loose stitching. We can do whatever’s needed to get them looking great again.

What if my curtain’s header doesn’t fit my rod?

We can modify the header tape, loops, or eyelets to match what you already own.

Can you make curtains from scratch if I bring the fabric?

Some of our stores can, we advise you simply call ahead to check. We’d be happy to let you know what’s possible.

Do you offer pick-up or installation?

We don’t currently offer those services, so you’ll need to bring the curtains to us with your measurements and rehang them yourself.

How long does it take?

This depends on the job. Simple hems or repairs can be done quickly, but other jobs might require more time. When you drop off your curtains, we’ll provide an accurate time frame.

Can you alter sheer or heavy blockout curtains?

Yes, we work with a wide range of fabrics, from sheer and floaty to thick and blackout-lined.
